Circuit City--another retailer with local presence is now reported to close, according to The New York Times. Boy, the shopping center The Walk in New Tampa has had a rough go of it lately, with the closings of Bennigans, Linens N Things, and now Circuit City!

We are going to lose a lot of big box retailers in the next couple of years. I predict a trend to highly integrated online-mainstreet stores with small sq ft locations with limited stock and next day shipping from regional warehouses to fullfil orders. All the sq footage is not needed any more.
